Bangkok- Dec 17-27

Bangkok was a whirlwind, there is so much to do here we barely stop to take a break.

Grand Palace
Our first site was the Grand Palace and a couple of the surrounding temples.  After that we went to the Museum of Siam, is centered on the background of Thai people.  In the beginning they showed a short clip which kind of hinted at the idea that a lot of people question what is true Thai.  After visiting the museum I took from it that a lot of individuals mixed in the area of Thailand forming the Thai nation thus creating a diversity of what Thai citizens look like.  Therefore the question of true Thai I believe couldn’t be answered as they are a compilation of all different nationalities that have mixed over hundred of years in seek of the great farmland in Thailand.

Chinatown
The Chinatown in Bangkok is huge, we walked around for 3 hours just exploring market after market.  There was a crazy compilation of foods, dried fruit, vegetables, teas and various objects for sale.  The two most interesting we way was bird nest soup and shark fin soup.  Although Adam and I were not adventurous enough to try either, it was fun to look.

Ayutthaya

One of our days in Bangkok we took a train two hours out of the city to see Thailand old capital.  The old city is surrounded by rivers on all three sides so essentially its an island.  Adam and I rented bicycles and spent the day riding around the city looking at old temple runes.  I ended the day with my second dish of Phad Thai, which was amazing.

Christmas in Bangkok

As few people celebrate Christmas in Thailand our christmas was different then normal.  The tourist area's were decorated for the foreigners so we spent the day exploring the giant malls and hotels.  On Christmas Eve we went to church as the International Church of Bangkok which we attended while we were there.  We found that the church family there was one of the most warm and inviting people we had met.  On Christmas day we spend the day finding all the christmas trees in the city and we played cards at Starbucks while sipping peppermint mochas.  The night was spent skyping our families.
